Michelle Heaton “Fairy Godmother”
Michelle will be playing Fairy Godmother in our spectacular panto this year.
Michelle Heaton is formerly and maybe best known for her time in the Pop Band Liberty X. Along with Jessica, Kelly, Kevin and Tony they were formed during their time on the hit ITV show Popstars. It was the year of Hearsay Vs Liberty X in 2001 and the band went on to sign with Richard Branson’s’ V2 label.
In the subsequent 5 years they had 7 top 10 singles, including their most successful, ‘Just a little’. This track debuted at number 1 in the UK, selling 100,000 copies in its first week. The track also won the Brit award for Best British Single in 2003.
The band reformed for the TV show the Big Reunion on ITV in 2013. The year of 5ive, Blue and others – they had a very successful and critically acclaimed TV show and followed on with a sell out Arena tour. Once last chance to get out that PVC maybe?! ‘ We actually still perform as a band, but with our own commitments and children not as much as we would like to.
After the group went their separate ways, Michelle appeared on various TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother, Come dine with me and the Irish Apprentice. She then met future husband Hugh Hanley in 2008.
That meeting was to change Michelle’s life in more ways than one.
The new couple moved to Ireland before getting married in the Bahamas in 2010. Michelle felt she needed a new start and moved to her husband’s native country – somewhere she still calls home and regularly visits for both work and family time.
The couple are now proud parents to Faith, 5 and AJ 3.
Michelle is a full time mum with her work commitments are arranged around her family. Husband Hugh works for Virgin Active, where he travels the UK and the World keeping up with the latest fitness trends for the company and implementing them in the UK firm’s gyms.
It was this mutual interest in fitness that kicked off Michelle’s healthy regime. She was fed up with the unhealthy food and lifestyle she had been leading. Michelle even appeared in a TV show called The Truth about Binge drinking for ITV where she had to drink an enormous amount of alcohol in 21 days to measure the affect on her body). Meeting Hugh led to a new way of life she was ready for.
Michelle decided to send herself back to college to qualify as a personal trainer and a certified nutritionist in 2009. She also later qualified as an expert in pre and post pregnancy fitness, whilst pregnant with her first child and later released the only DVD on the market to cover all three trimesters separately.
‘Michelle Heaton Active Pregnancy’ shows Michelle throughout her pregnancy adopting the different techniques she has learned. Michelle said: ‘I was amazed it wasn’t talked about more, as with Faith I struggled to get fit again after the birth. So with my second child AJ I decided to keep fit throughout the 9 months, hoping it would be easier afterwards. I knew that the things I could do in the first 3 months would be very different to what I could safely achieve in the last trimester of my pregnancy!’ so the idea of the DVD was born as it were!’
Michelle set up her YouTube channel: Michelle Heaton in Reality in 2015 to cover how she stays fit whilst running the family home, beauty tips, recipes for the busy mum and much more. The most popular videos are proving to be those centred on Fitness and food. In particular her 3-minute workout videos – for those of us that struggle to fit in exercise around the home with young children! Her Abs, Upper & Lower body and Cardio workout might just be for you!
During all of this busy time for Michelle, she also fought a personal battle quite publicly. She is well documented to have the BRACA2 gene and underwent preventative surgery to reduce her risk of both breast and ovarian cancer, which run in her family.
You can see Michelle’s journey documented through her work on the Loraine show, which covered both of her operations and the time leading up to the decisions.
In addition to being a mum and working constantly on ideas for her channel, Michelle became a regular fixture on the Loraine show during 2015. From fronting pieces on breast cancer awareness to mentoring people through their ‘Change one Thing’ segment. It’s a part of the job she enjoys particularly the live outside broadcasting work. Michelle said’ I love working in TV and meeting people and I really love the live stuff – I think it’s the adrenaline!’
As a recent Disney Mum of the year Michelle often works with the company across PR for the parks, channels and the brand – something that obviously delights her children no end!
This year she will again be taking part in the Run Disney half marathon in Paris, which she recently launched with Paula Radcliffe.
In 2017 Michelle went back to touring with Atomic Kitten – she stepped in to the shoes of Liz McClarnon, for a recent tour of Australia and New Zealand and more dates with both bands follow this year, both in the UK and internationally. Following of from this Michelle realised she loved being on stage and Liberty X reformed as a 3 piece girl group. This summer they have over 30 gigs and are loving being back together!
This year has been a busy one for Michelle, taking part in a a major TV show and writing her first book. The Real Full Monty hit our screens in April, but in reality was filmed over three months and resulted in many amazing experiences and friendships between a group of women all with their own Cancer stories. Michelle found it very uplifting and has received so much feedback from women who have been driven to have themselves and their families checked for early signs of Cancer. The show itself was a ratings success with over 5 million people tuning in.
Writing her book Hot Flush; Motherhood, the menopause and Me was something Michelle had wanted to do for some time. The process which began in 2017 was an emotional one and one that made her face things in a way she hadn’t before. Michelle’s husband Hugh even wrote a chapter as Michelle felt menopause was a subject that just wasn’t discussed openly enough – with many partners feeling helpless and the subject treated as it it was a taboo. Michelle entered surgical menopause at the age of 36.
The book currently just released is doing what Michelle does best – raising awareness about difficult subject matter and getting us all talking!
With many projects in the pipeline, 2018 is already proving to be a busy and exciting year for Michelle.
